For Instructors and Graduate Teaching Assistants:

It is the policy of Oregon State University to comply with Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as amended by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and other applicable federal and state regulations that prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability. The Rehabilitation Act and the ADA require that no qualified person shall, solely by reason of disability, be denied access to, participation in, or the benefits of, any program or activity operated by the University. Each qualified person shall receive the reasonable accommodations needed to ensure equal access to employment, educational opportunities, programs, and activities in the most integrated setting feasible.

Guidelines are designed to help OSU faculty understand how accommodations work and what parts of the accommodation process they are responsible for related to their class.  https://ds.oregonstate.edu/facultyguidelines. Find additional information on the DAS Brochure located here.

This training provides faculty and staff with information to understand classroom accommodations. The online training connects the campus community to extensive resources to improve communication throughout the accommodations process. https://workspace.oregonstate.edu/course/disability-access-services-faculty-training?hsLang=en

  • DAS Syllabus Statement:

Include the following paragraph: "Statement Regarding Students with Disabilities: Accommodations for students with disabilities are determined and approved by Disability Access Services (DAS). If you, as a student, believe you are eligible for accommodations but have not obtained approval please contact DAS immediately at 541-737-4098 or at http://ds.oregonstate.edu. DAS notifies students and faculty members of approved academic accommodations and coordinates implementation of those accommodations. While not required, students and faculty members are encouraged to discuss details of the implementation of individual accommodations."

For more information on Syllabus requirements, please click here: https://apa.oregonstate.edu/syllabus-minimum-requirements

If a student who is Deaf, hard of hearing, or has an auditory processing disorder is in class, the “Notice of Academic Accommodation” email from Disability Access Services will list the accommodations that are appropriate for the student. There are several teaching techniques that are helpful for students with a hearing loss in your class. Find additional information at the link above.

  • How to add a service provider (Interpreter, Transcriber, Classroom Assistant) to your canvas class:

https://ds.oregonstate.edu/accommodations-canvas

  • What is ReadSpeaker and Textaid in Canvas?

Both applications will read content materials aloud.

https://ds.oregonstate.edu/readspeaker-and-textaid

  • How to add additional time to your canvas exams?

If a student is eligible for alternative testing extended time accommodations, it is the faculty member's responsibility to provide that extra time for any exams or quizzes in Canvas.

To aid faculty and staff at the University meet the policies and guidance set forth by the Office of Equal Opportunities & Access, a collection of resources and tutorials (external sites) pertaining to the creation of accessible content can be found below.
